Hanft. This was a great book for me and I loved reading it. It was very easy to read and it taught me a lot about Jackie Robinson.

This book goes through Jackie Robinson's life from when he grew up in his first house all the way until he got his number retired in all of the Major League. His main accomplishment was when he broke the color barrier in the Major Leagues. Before this time no African American was allowed to play proffessional baseball in the same league as the whites. I admire him for being so courageous, because not everyone would sacrafice themselves like he did.

This book taught me how Jackie Robinson went about his life and how he accomplished so much. If you want to learn more about Jackie you should definitely read this book and you will definitely enjoy it.

Skinny Bones

Skinny bones was a book that I also read and it was written by Barbara Park. This was the first time that I have read a book by Barbara Park so I was unsure what to expect.

This book was about a young kid named Alex who is a sixth grader and plays baseball. He thinks that he is better than he really is so he brags on himselft a lot. He pitches but he is not even close to as good as the thinds he is. He even challenges the best pitcher around named T.J. They go to a local pitching contest and Alex gets humiliated.

I like this book because it reminded me of myself in some ways and I got very into the book. I love to read books that involve baeball and this book did. This book was reccomended to me by another student so I decided to read it.

This book was about a high school football player named Miles Manning. Miles is a star on the team but he is pressured by a lot of people to become better. His friend tries to talk him into taking steroids and he knows that it is wrong but he is unsure what to do. To find out if Miles makes the right decision and stays away from the drugs you should read this book.

If you have a love for football, or even like any sport this book will be just right for you. I usually do not read too much but this book was a quick and easy read so it was perfect for me.

The Wrestling Match

Another novel that our class just finished reading was called The Wrestling Match by Buchi Emecheta. This novel was also very entertaining and it had a great lesson to it.

The main character's name was Okei. He was a sixteen year old boy who lived in a Nigerian village. Both of his parents were killed in the Civi war, which took place in 1960, so he went through many tough times and learned many new lessons.

To learn all the struggles that Okei and his family went through, you should read this novel to find out and this book can also teach you a lesson.

Night

We just finished reading the novel Night as a class. I enjoyed this book because the author told real life stories about him while he was in the concentration camp. This book kept you wondering what would happen next and what the family will do to stay together or even survive.

If you like studying about the Holocaust and learning new things about the author I would definitey reccomend this novel. Even if you do not know a whole lot about the Holocaust it is still a good novel to read. There were many things that I did not know about before I was assigned the Holocause project.

I think that the Holocaust was a very hard time for many people. This affected many people, but mainly the Jews. I believe that Adolf Hitler was a crazy man for doing that to all those people. Luckily the Holocaust is still not going on today.

It is also very sad that millions of innocent men, women, and children were murdered by the Nazis. If I was ever able to go and see the buildings of the old concentration camps, I could image what went on.

This taught me to be thankful of what I have and how lucky I am.

Favorite Web-Tech Tool

My favorite web-base tech tool would have to be google.com. This helped my a lot in one of my English projects this year.

Haiku

The Holocaust was
Tough and deadly for the Jews
They suffered in camps

Heat

The book that I finished reading was called Heat by Mike Lupica. This was not the first time that I have read one of his books either. I really enjoy reading his books and I especially liked this book since it was about baseball.

This novel was about a young 12 year old kid who is very good at baseball, so good that nobody believes that he is really 12 years old. He is trying to help his team get to the Little League World Series but he has to convince them that he is really the right age. He gets one of his best friends to try and show them that he really is 12.

To find out if he gets to play in the World Series you need to read this book. I definitely would recommend reading this novel if you like sports and especially baseball.

My spring break

My spring break was just okay. It definitely was not long enough. We just got nine days, but it felt way less than that. It always seems like our school breaks are never long enough and that they fly by so fast.

All that I did over spring break was play and watch baseball games. During our break we played five games and one of them got rained out. I also went to four of Lyon’s baseball games. The best thing about my break was that I got to sleep in just about every day. I normally do not get to do that very often.

I wish that our spring break was longer because it went by way too fast and I am not ready to come back to school. Adolf Hitler was a powerful man who forced all Jews into concentration camps. In these concentration camps a lot of killing went on.

I once saw a movie that was based on he Holocaust and I cannot image how tough that was for them. I know that if I was a Jew in that time I would be scared to death. I thought the exam was rather easy is most parts but there was some difficult parts to it. I am not one of the best test takers so that did not help me. Most of the big tests that I take I struggle on because I am nervous and hope that I do not mess up on it.

The one part of the exam that I know that I did well on was the writing and reading open responses. I also think that I did an okay job on the multiple choices.

One thing that I am for sure of thought is that the End-of-Level exam is finally over. Hopefully all of my hard work to prepare for the exam pays off by me getting a high score.

Materialism

In today's world I think that too many people today are "materialistic". They care about how they appear to other people rather than just being themself. This usually involves the way that they dress, or they way that they act around others. Often times they try and be someone that they are not. Some people are this way and some are not.

I try to not be this way. Usually I just be myself, and if people don't like the way I am, that is okay. I still don't change they way that I do things, or the way that I act. In this semester I have learned a lot in all of my new classes. My favorite classes so far have to be Algebra II, Spanish II, and Desktop Publishing because I am good at them. My least favorite classes are probably English, Chemistry, and United States History because they are harder for me to understand. Even though these classes are harder I still like all of my teachers. Playing football this fall was also very fun for me and even though the season is over I still have baseball to look forward to this spring. Baseball is my favorite sport and that is what I am most looking forward to this next semester.

Bullying in "The Crucible"

The novel “The Crucible” also involves many bullies. In this novel, one of the main bullies is a young woman named Abigail Williams. Abigail first accuses Tituba of doing which craft even thought she was also a part of it. Abigail says that she was forced into doing which craft by Tituba, but that was a lie.

Tituba is not the only one that was bullied by Abigail. Abigail even bullied her own friends into lying with her so that she would not be accused of which craft and she knows that she was. She threatens to hurt them if they don’t do as she says to do.

Last, Abigail and her friends accuse many other people of their village of which craft even if they were not a part of it and cause them to be hung in front of a large cheering crowd.

Summary of "The Kite Runner"

I think that this book was a fairly good book to read. I do not read much, so it is hard for me to get into books, but I did enjoy this one.

I discovered in this book that there was a lot of bullying going on. I don’t think that anybody should ever bully any other person because it hurts other people’s feelings. After reading this book I try even harder not to bully anyone because I saw what happened to the boys in this book.

Also after reading “The Kite Runner” I learned a lot about how people live in Afghanistan and how much different it is over there, rather than here in the United States. This book helps me realize how appreciative I am to live in the U.S.

Bullying in "The Kite Runner"

In this book, many kids are bullied. One of the boys that gets bullied is Amir. Amir gets bullied by Assef. Assef is an older boy that makes fun of Amir and even abuses him in harmful ways. Hassan, who is Amir’s half-brother saw how Assef bullied and even raped Amir but he did not do anything about it because he was too scared. Once Amir found out that Hassan did not help him Amir began to bully Hassan.

Bullying is something that should never be done because it doesn’t make anybody feel better, it just makes them feel worse. Even though bullying happens all the time, and everyone does it sometimes, it is still not the right thing to do.

John McCain for President

I think that John McCain would be the right president to vote for because of many reasons. One reason is because he is willing to end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and bring our troops home with honor. Also, McCain would be the right president to vote for because he has many years of experience in the political world.

I agree with his idea to end the war in Iraq because it would secure the peace for many generations. The war is costing our nation huge amounts of money and the war needs to end because of that. Not only would he end the war in Iraq, but he would also help win the war in Afghanistan by increasing the size of forces there and adopting a true counterinsurgency strategy. I also like how he will continue to hunt down al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.

Because of all McCain’s years in the political world and all the experience he has received that would help him as being the next president. He first was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982 and served two terms. He later was reelected to the U.S. Senate in 1986 and won the following reelections easily in 1992, 1998, and 2004. He now serves as a Republican and his profession is a Naval aviator and Politician as a Senior U.S. Senator.

As you can see I believe that he is the right nominee to be the next president because of his idea to end the war in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Also, because all of his experience in the political world. John McCain definitely should be the next president of the United States in the 2008 presidential election.

My Pioneer

There are many people in my life that are pioneers but when I think of a pioneer I think of my dad. My dad is my pioneer because he works hard to earn money for my family. He works usually six days a week at Lyon College where he is the athletic director and head baseball coach. He used to also teach at UACCB to get more money for us too. A couple of years ago he had two hernia surgeries, but that has not stopped him from working hard at what he does. He never complains, and he is willing to do whatever he needs to do to help our family. As you can see my dad is a pioneer in my life.

Black Storm Comin's Setting

Colton and his family travel through the western U.S. desert and also the Nevada Mountains on their way to California in the novel Black Storm Comin’ by Diane Lee Wilson. This novel’s setting takes place in the 1860’s when Colton and his family are traveling to get to California and on the way they travel through the western U.S. desert. The desert is very hot and there are also many dangerous animals that they have to avoid. They also travel through the Nevada Mountains. In the mountains they have to travel over there is a lot of rain and it is hard for the wagon to maneuver correctly. As you can see the desert and mountains were very difficult to travel through.
